Sometimes the best romance setups are the ones that sound absolutely chaotic on paper but make complete sense once you're in them.
Olivia Sutton has a Ten Year Plan, and accidentally marrying her college nemesis is absolutely not part of it. When a sister's pre-wedding trip goes spectacularly sideways and Olivia wakes up legally bound to tech sensation Lachlan Hayes, the two of them decide the most logical move is to stay married for now and figure it out as they go. Predictably, feelings have other plans.
I love a good marriage of convenience, and this one genuinely delivers. The banter between Olivia and Lachlan is sharp and funny in a way that feels natural rather than performed, and their text exchanges in particular had me grinning like an idiot. Jenny B. Jones writes with a real warmth and the chemistry between these two feels earned rather than just convenient to the plot. There is a slow-burn quality to the whole thing that works beautifully, the kind where you are rooting so hard for two people to just figure it out already, and the quieter personal moments give the story a lovely intimacy despite the technically fake nature of the arrangement.
Fair warning that this is a longer read at 427 pages, and some readers may find the pacing leisurely in the middle stretch. But honestly, if you are the kind of reader who loves to truly live inside a romance and savour every small step two people take toward each other, that length is a gift rather than a drawback. The content warnings for workplace abuse and parental neglect are worth noting, as both threads carry some real emotional weight. At four stars, this is a warm, funny, and genuinely satisfying read that fans of the trope will not want to miss.
Not a 5-star read for me, but a rating is just one reader's experience. If the tropes above are your thing, this could be exactly what you're looking for. I'd rather share it than gatekeep it.
