Some books earn their five stars before you even finish the first chapter, and In Every Chapter by Morgan Taylor Giesbrecht is absolutely one of them.
Paisley wakes up after an accident to discover she has lost seven years of her life. The man she remembers as the grumpy Marine she was just beginning to fall for turns out to be her husband, and suddenly she is navigating a marriage, a whole shared history, and a love she has no memory of choosing. Greyson, steady and patient in a way that quietly breaks your heart, is left holding the pieces of a life his wife can no longer remember while trying not to rush her back to something she has to find on her own terms.
What makes this one work where so many amnesia stories stumble is the emotional honesty. Greyson never tips into frustration or resentment, even when he has every reason to. He has lost the version of his wife who knew every chapter of their story together, and he carries that grief with a gentleness that made me want to cry for him and cheer for him in equal measure. Paisley, even stripped of her memories, is so easy to root for. She is warm and quirky and a genuine book lover, and you absolutely understand why Greyson fell for her the first time around.
The content warnings here are real and worth noting, covering grief, infertility, past abuse, domestic violence, panic attacks, war, and death, so go in prepared. But the story handles all of it with care. This is one of those rare reads that earns every emotional beat it asks of you, and I closed it feeling genuinely full rather than wrung out. If you have a soft spot for the already-married setup or for amnesia done right, do not sleep on this one.
